"Everything the Power of the World does is done in a circle. The sky is round, and I have heard that the earth is round like a ball, and so are all the stars. The wind, in its greatest power, whirls. Birds make their nests in circles, for theirs is the same religion as ours. The sun comes forth and goes down again in a circle. The moon does the same, and both are round. Even the seasons form a great circle in their changing, and always come back again to where they were. The life of a man is a circle from childhood to childhood, and so it is in everything where power moves.“

About Creating Mandalas
Creating mandalas is an ancient art process that speaks to us in contemporary time as a way to find our center and create balance in our lives. This slow, deeply meditative art process allows us the opportunity to open to the moment and create personal sanctuary through art making amidst the hectic pace of life, shifting our perspective and allowing transformation to occur.

As form, pattern and images begin to emerge, we become involved in an enchanted, reciprocal dance with spirit.

Using Prismacolor pencils on black paper, we begin each drawing with white pencil, allowing the images emerge out of the procreative darkness, bringing them to life by overlaying the images with a palette of rainbow colors In this way we create jewel-like mandalas and connect to a deep internal wisdom.

About Caterina Martinico
and Patricia Waters

Both Caterina Martinico and Patricia Waters (1934-2012) studied with Judith Cornell, Ph.D, since 1992 and have been certified mandala facilitators through the mandala facilitation training. They have shared this work in classes, retreats, workshops, spiritual centers, and educational conferences in California and throughout the Western U.S.

Over the years of sharing and facilitating Judith Cornell’s original illuminated mandala process and techniques for spiritual and emotional healing, many participants have told of profound changes in their lives. Participants receive the tools to continue to use mandalas in their every day life, to live more fully in the present, and to use the power of intention to create positive change and express more joy, love and self-confidence.

See our bios in the Creative Arts Studio section of this web page for more information about the work that is offered, in addition to the mandala work. CEUs for art therapists are available for all workshops, classes and groups offered through the Creative Arts Studio.
What participants have said about our Mandala Workshops:
I love your workshops! I enjoy the time for meditative inner discovery and also time for art making, a perfect balance of art technique and skill development with the personal process of healing and growth. The safe and welcoming environment you provide helps in trusting that whatever I create will be just right for me in that moment. It’s sacred fun! Thank you always.

-Dee Krieger, Art Therapist

I have participated in a number of Mandala workshops recently and found them centering and inspiring. I was accompanied twice by my granddaughter, a high school freshman, who enjoyed her experiences thoroughly!

-Charles R. Miller, Consultant, Facilitator, Trainer

Working with the Illuminated Mandala process continues to amaze me; with each workshop I gain deeper trust in the process. I find the caring structure of the work meditative and a way to safely enter the unknown through color and light. I will return to work with Patricia and Caterina whenever I can.

- Maria Gonzalez-Blue

The Illuminated Mandala Workshop with Caterina and Patricia was an invaluable day of meditative self-care. The material was clearly presented, useful tools were acquired, and I felt my own resources refreshed. The workshop helped me to tend to the fire of my passion and to restore connection to soul.

-Brenda Elliott

I have attended various classes with both Caterina and Patricia, and can honestly say that they are two of the kindest, most compassionate teachers I have had. This technique was presented in a simple, step-by-step way, yet every part of the process felt magical. I went away feeling like I had created something beautiful and meaningful.
